Our researchers Pia Koivunen and Louis Clerc have resecently published new monographs on cultural diplomacy. Koivunen’s book Performing Peace and Friendship. The World Youth Festivals and Soviet Cultural Diplomacy (De Gruyter, 2022) examines Soviet cultural diplomacy and the World Youth Festivals at the early Cold War. Louis Clerc’in’s book Cultural Diplomacy in Cold War Finland. Identitety, Geopolitics, and the Welfare State (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023) discusses how Finland used cultural diplomacy for nation branding and identity building during the Cold War period. Both books are openly available on the publishers’ websites.
